BIP course: “Space and Performance in the Cinema” (Erasmus+/UNITA)

From April 13 to 17, the University of Zaragoza will host the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “Space and Performance in the Cinema” within the framework of the UNITA alliance. The course is organized by Pablo Gómez and María del Mar Azcona, lecturers at the Department of English and German and members of the research project “Performing Space / Spatializing Performance: Space and Performance in 21st Century Cinema” (PID2024-155365NB-I0). The course is supported by the Erasmus+ program and the Institute for Employment, Digital Societies, and Sustainability (IEDIS).

The course offers an opportunity to explore Film Studies through the lens of cinematic space and its relationship with real and imagined spaces. Using examples from American, European, and Australian films, it addresses topics such as mobility, gender, intimacy, transnational dynamics, and urban spaces.

In addition to the academic program, which will take place mainly at the Faculty of Humanities, students will attend two sessions of the Ecozine Film Festival at the Faculty of Humanities and an exhibition on Pixar films at the CaixaForum museum.

The BIP will bring together 34 students from several universities of the UNITA alliance: Beira (Portugal), Pau and Savoie Mont Blanc (France), Turin (Italy), Timișoara and Brașov (Romania), as well as other European universities: Galway (Ireland) and Montpellier (France).

The teaching team includes Rob Stone (Birmingham), Conn Holohan (Galway), Martha Shearer (Dublin), David Roche (Montpellier), Alberto Spadafora (Turin), Ioana Dorobanțu-Gordon (Timișoara), Bogdan Popa (Brașov), Celestino Deleyto, and Julia Echeverría (Zaragoza).
